I’ve said it before and most assuredly, I’ll say it again, and again, and again…Studies are verifying, but those of us who spend our lives with animals already know, that the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to their owners and hopefully to our furry, feathered, hooved, finned or scaled loved ones as well.
Some of the health benefits of having a pet include:
- Decreased blood pressure
- Decreased cholesterol levels
- Decreased triglyceride levels
- Decreased feelings of loneliness
- Increased opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities
- Increased opportunities for socialization
When you get on a plane, flight attendants remind you that should the oxygen masks drop…put one on yourself before helping others. That’s because you could be rendered unconscious in as little as 15 seconds and then of no use to anyone else!
The Pet Safety Crusader is always saying the same about disaster preparedness. “Don’t forget human supplies and preparations!”
Broken record or not, it’s true! If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of the animals in your life! Some of us work so hard at making life as PAWfect as possible for our pets. We read pet food labels and buy the best diet our budget will allow, never miss a wellness exam, brush their teeth, groom, exercise and keep up with the latest gadgets and education regarding animal care.
I’m here today to preach to you (and to myself) about doing the same for ourselves. The number one gift we can give our pets is a healthy pet mom or dad who will be active and do their doggone best to stick around to care for our fur children.
There are so many lessons we learn from the animals in our lives. One of them is to be present, and to truly be in the moment, we need to feel our best so that we can relish that gentle breeze against our cheek, the breath-taking sunset or the true feeling of inner peace.
Like humans, dogs produce oxytocin, which allows us both to experience love and affection. Canines have limbic systems comparable to ours and advanced than the majority of other species. Limbic systems enable dogs and people to experience a range of higher emotions, appreciate beauty and something we might call spiritual ecstacy. Have you ever seen your dog gazing at a sunset or drinking in the beauty of nature? These meditative moments are caused by flares of limbic activity.
Health is more than just eating right and exercising – it’s about nurturing an attitude and sticking to a commitment to feel better, to be the best version of YOU!
For both humans and our furkids, there are hundreds if not thousands of options or foods, supplements and other products that profess to be the best. I’m not going to tell you which is A #1 cause there’s always something new coming out and the best for one person or pet is not necessarily the best for another. You know when I talk pet food, I often say that the food that is best is the one that your pet thrives on. Siblings from the same litter may do better on something completely different, so knowledge is power and learning about what is available is key!
For that reason, I’d like to share products today from another one of which I feel are cream of the crop companies that can help you accomplish wholeness of health as it pledges to provide products that can help both pets and people live longer, healthier and happier lives – Life’s Abundance, and I welcome you to meet Lisa & Rich Jelinek – pet parents and former pet sitters who LOVE this brand so much that they started working with it in 2003 and it has changed their lives! They are now offering YOU, my students and loyal followers a special offer!
Head over to their Facebook.com/HealthyPetPeeps page or peruse their website www.healthypetpeeps.com and you’ll receive auto ship pricing (without signing up for autoship) and $5 off your first order! This is a limited time offer, so what are you waiting for?!
Like our pets humans are ¾ water, so we need a bunch of it to keep every system of our body properly functioning. Sometimes though, it just doesn’t have the pizazz we’re looking for to keep us drinking, so Life’s Abundance offers flavor and nutrition to fix that problem.
They also have plant proteins – smoothies with vitamins and the heart-brain-immune system-joint healthy omega 3s. You can also get your omegas in capsule form with a citrusy flavor. I sampled the Greens Blend with its slight berry flavor!
Many cat’s these days are combating allergies, dogs too! Whether it’s fleas, pollen, food, mold or fragrances, the itching is the body’s response to allergens. Life’s Abundance food, like some of the other top most brands, do not contain corn, wheat or glutens. If you want grains – they offer healthy brown rice and groats, whole oats! And pre as well as pro biotics, good fats and eggs which many consider the PURRfect food as it contains all the essential amino acids, those building blocks of protein.
In so many ways, pets and people aren’t that much different. We require a lot of the same vitamins and nutrients, but also must know our differences. The point I’d like to make however is that most of us don’t bat an eyelash at treating ourselves to a coffee shop latte or frap but then hesitate to spend that same $5 on an organic dozen of eggs or bag of pesticide-free organically-grown freshly-picked veggies!
The old adage of “you are what you eat” rings truer than ever, so just stop…take a moment and think of those big brown or green eyes staring adoringly up at you and know you and they are worth it. Cut corners elsewhere but get your pets and YOURself the best food, nutrition and exercise. It can truly lead to a longer happily ever after together!
Remember to check out @HealthyPetPeeps today for a GRReat discount and a PURRfect start to better health for you and your loved ones, whether they roam this earth on two legs or four paws!
